Purpose of The Role

The Stage Production Lighting Maintenance Engineer is jointly responsible for all technical aspects of the NMACC Theatre Lighting Systems’ maintenance and operations. This role involves close coordination with the core technical team and production technicians and requires flexibility to support show and rehearsal activities as directed by NMACC management.


Job Accountabilities


Technical Maintenance & Supervision

  • Supervise, manage, and control maintenance of:
  • ETC Dimmer Systems
  • Lighting Infrastructure
  • Lighting Consoles
  • Paradigm Network and Control Systems
  • Networks and Equipment Racks
  • DMX Controllers
  • LED Fixtures
  • Rigging Accessories across NMACC venues


Operational Duties

  • Execute technical work related to productions and rehearsals.
  • Maintain all theatre productions and auditorium lighting systems and associated inventory.
  • Design and develop operational procedures with consideration for health, safety, quality, and environmental standards for management approval.
  • Supervise outsourced maintenance teams and ensure work is conducted safely and in compliance with industry best practices.
  • Support minor projects and refurbishment works as assigned.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to verify that work aligns with established procedures, schedules, and cost constraints.
  • Provide periodic maintenance reports, progress updates, and incident documentation as required


Event Support

  • Provide technical support for special events and performances, including work outside regular hours when necessary.
  • Collaborate with peer departments to prepare for performances and events, including manual handling tasks on stage as needed.
  • Assist or relieve other departments when required.


Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Respond promptly and appropriately to accidents, fire, loss, theft, damage, or other irregularities; complete all necessary reports.
  • Ensure full compliance with NMACC procedures relating to health, safety, quality, and the environment.
  • Ensure that all personnel under supervision follow applicable safety and operational protocols.


Training and Development

  • Provide ongoing training to staff and interns to maintain competence and technical proficiency.
  • Promote adherence to professional standards of work quality and safety.


General Duties

  • System Upkeep: Inspect, calibrate, and maintain theatre lighting systems and Paradigm networks.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose electrical, control, or software faults to minimize downtime.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Execute scheduled maintenance, PAT testing and update maintenance logs.
  • System Integration: Assist with installation, commissioning, and retrofitting of lighting systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate wiring diagrams, schematics, and maintenance records.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all systems meet applicable electrical and machine safety standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyse equipment performance data and recommend hardware or process improvements.
  • Spare Parts Management: Track and manage spare components to avoid delays.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions and update SOP


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electrical & Electronics Engineering

OR

  • Diploma in Electrical or Electrical & Electronics Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience

OR

  • Professionals with a minimum of 15 years of verified industry experience and relevant technical certifications from recognized institutions


Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial automation, electrical maintenance, or related technical roles.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting and resolving downtime issues.
  • Involvement in continuous improvement or lean maintenance initiatives.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Working knowledge of ISO, OSHA, and IEC safety standards.
  • Prior experience in professional theatre systems, touring entertainment rigging, or live event lighting is a strong advantage.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and executing mark-out procedures


Skills

  • Advanced technical skills in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining theatre and stage lighting systems.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining lighting consoles, dimmer racks, and automated fixtures.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring standards, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, circuit diagrams, and schematics.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and documentation systems.
  • Familiarity with LED and intelligent lighting technologies, DMX, RDM and control systems.
  • Competence in rigging safety, load handling, and fixture alignment.
  • Physical capability to work at heights and perform manual maintenance tasks.
  • Strong coordination and communication skills to work effectively with production and technical teams
