Job Overview:
The Café Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the café, ensuring that it runs efficiently, profitably, and offers excellent customer service. This role involves managing staff, maintaining inventory, and creating a welcoming environment for customers while ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Staff Management:
- Hire, train, and supervise café staff.
- Schedule shifts and manage staff performance.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and resolve any workplace conflicts.
- Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork.
2. Customer Service:
- Ensure excellent customer service at all times.
- Handle customer complaints and feedback professionally.
- Build strong customer relationships to increase loyalty and repeat business.
3. Operational Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day running of the café, ensuring smooth operations.
- Ensure the café is clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times.
- Monitor food and beverage preparation to meet quality standards.
4. Financial Management:
- Manage the café’s budget and ensure profitability.
- Track inventory levels, order supplies, and manage food and beverage costs.
- Prepare reports on sales, expenses, and profits for upper management.
5. Health and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and health standards.
- Train staff on proper food handling and hygiene practices.
- Maintain a safe and hygienic environment for both customers and staff.
6. Marketing and Promotion:
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract new customers and retain existing ones.
- Manage social media accounts and promote café events, specials, or seasonal offers.
- Collaborate with other local businesses to increase visibility and community engagement.
7. Menu Management:
- Assist with menu planning and updates.
- Ensure the quality and consistency of food and beverages.
- Manage supplier relationships and negotiate pricing to ensure cost-effective purchasing.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a café manager or in a similar role within the hospitality industry.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle customer complaints and difficult situations with professionalism.
- Knowledge of budgeting, inventory management, and financial reporting.
- Understanding of food safety regulations and health codes.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in marketing or social media promotion.
- Barista or culinary background.
- Basic knowledge of accounting software or point-of-sale systems.
Work Environment:
- Fast-paced, customer-oriented setting.
- May require standing for long periods and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
