**Head of Department (HOD) – Neurology

Job Description**

Department: Neurology

Reporting To: Medical Director / Dean / Principal

Job Summary

The HOD – Neurology is responsible for leading the neurology department in clinical services, academics, research, patient care, and administration. The role involves supervising consultant neurologists, teaching faculty, and ensuring high-quality neurological care aligned with institutional standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Oversee all neurological clinical services including OPD, IPD, ICU rounds, and emergency neurological care.
  • Diagnose and manage complex neurological conditions (stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, movement disorders, etc.).
  • Supervise neurologists, residents, and clinical staff.
  • Ensure quality care, patient safety, and adherence to medical protocols.
  • Guide treatment plans, neurodiagnostic procedures, and rehabilitation support.

2. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities (for colleges / teaching hospitals)

  • Conduct lectures, clinical postings, demonstrations, and academic sessions.
  • Guide postgraduate and undergraduate students.
  • Plan academic schedules, examinations, and internal assessments.
  • Mentor research scholars and supervise dissertations.

3. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Lead the Neurology Department and manage daily operations.
  • Prepare duty rosters, allocate responsibilities, and maintain discipline.
  • Ensure proper documentation, patient records, and compliance with NABH/NMC standards.
  • Monitor departmental performance and submit reports to the management.
  • Coordinate with other departments such as Neurosurgery, Radiology, Physiotherapy, ICU, etc.

4. Research & Development

  • Promote clinical research, publications, and case studies.
  • Conduct CMEs, workshops, neurological awareness programs.
  • Stay updated with new treatments, technologies, and neurology advancements.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • MD / DM in Neurology or equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Minimum 8–12 years of clinical and teaching experience.
  • Proven leadership experience in a medical college / tertiary care hospital.
  • Strong knowledge in neurodiagnostics: EEG, EMG, NCV, Imaging interpretation.
