Museum Curator Job Description
As a Museum Curator, you will oversee the acquisition, conservation, and exhibition of objects in the museum's collection. You will research and document the history and significance of artifacts, and work with other museum professionals to create engaging exhibitions and educational programs. Additionally, you will collaborate with donors, scholars, and community members to expand the museum's collection and promote its mission.
Responsibilities
- Manage the museum's collection, including cataloging, organizing, and preserving artifacts and artwork
- Conduct research on the historical and cultural significance of objects in the collection
- Develop and curate exhibitions, ensuring accurate interpretation and engaging presentation
- Collaborate with other museum professionals to create educational programs and events
- Network with donors, scholars, and community members to acquire new artifacts and promote the museum's mission
- Supervise museum staff, interns, and volunteers
- Contribute to grant writing and fundraising efforts
- Stay updated on trends and best practices in museum curation and exhibit design
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Anthropology, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
- Proven experience in museum curation, including collection management and exhibition design
- Strong research and documentation skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Knowledge of conservation principles and practices
- Familiarity with museum software and databases
