The Medical Records Technician is responsible for organizing and managing medical records in a healthcare setting. They ensure that medical records are accurate, complete, and up-to-date. They also handle requests for medical records from patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other authorized parties.
Responsibilities
- Organize and maintain patients' medical records in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Ensure the accuracy and completeness of medical records by reviewing and updating information
- Process requests for medical records from authorized individuals and organizations
- Maintain the confidentiality of patients' medical records and comply with privacy regulations and policies
- Collaborate with healthcare providers and other staff to ensure accurate and timely documentation
- Monitor and maintain electronic medical record systems
- Assist with coding and data entry tasks related to medical records
- Provide support in audits and quality improvement initiatives related to medical records management
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification or associate degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred
- Experience with medical records management systems and electronic health records
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems
- Attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
