GIS Technician Job Description
As a GIS Technician, you will play a key role in managing and maintaining geographic information systems (GIS) data. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement GIS projects, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information for various applications, including planning, analysis, and decision-making. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and interpret geographic information to create maps and reports
- Assist in maintaining the GIS database and ensuring data accuracy and integrity
- Develop and implement GIS projects, including data collection, processing, and analysis
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide GIS support and solutions
- Provide technical support for GIS software and hardware
- Stay up-to-date with advancements in GIS technology and recommend improvements and best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, or related field
- Proficient in GIS software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or MapInfo
- Experience with data collection, processing, and analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of spatial database management systems, such as PostgreSQL or Oracle
- Familiarity with scripting languages, such as Python or R, is a plus
