Director Of Purchasing Job Description
As the Director of Purchasing, you will be responsible for developing and implementing purchasing strategies to ensure cost-effective procurement of goods and services. You will collaborate with various departments to understand their purchasing needs, negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms and pricing, and continuously evaluate supplier performance to maintain high standards of quality and efficiency. Additionally, you will lead a team of purchasing professionals, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic purchasing plans to optimize procurement processes
- Collaborate with departments to identify purchasing needs and establish specifications for goods and services
- Negotiate with suppliers to obtain favorable terms, pricing, and payment conditions
- Assess and select suppliers based on their ability to meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of goods and services
- Monitor supplier performance and implement corrective actions when necessary
- Manage the purchasing budget and ensure cost-effective procurement practices
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of purchasing professionals
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in purchasing and supply chain management
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Director of Purchasing or similar role
- Solid knowledge of procurement strategies, processes, and best practices
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities
- Analytical mindset with the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
