Crime Scene Investigator Job Description

As a Crime Scene Investigator, you will play a crucial role in gathering and preserving evidence at crime scenes. You will document and photograph the scene, collect and analyze physical evidence, and create detailed reports to support criminal investigations. Additionally, you may be required to testify in court and collaborate with law enforcement agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Examine crime scenes to identify and document evidence
  • Photograph and sketch crime scenes to create a visual representation
  • Collect and analyze physical evidence, including fingerprints, DNA, and other trace materials
  • Preserve and package evidence to maintain chain of custody
  • Create detailed reports and provide expert analysis to support criminal investigations
  • Assist in the identification and apprehension of suspects
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other forensic specialists
  • Testify in court as an expert witness when required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field
  • Experience in crime scene investigation or forensic analysis
  • Knowledge of forensic techniques, evidence collection, and preservation procedures
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive information
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Familiarity with crime scene investigation software and tools
  • Certification as a Crime Scene Investigator or similar credential (preferred)
