Corrections Officer Job Description
As a Corrections Officer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and security of a correctional facility. You will monitor inmate activities, conduct searches, and manage the movement of inmates within the facility. Additionally, you will enforce rules and regulations, respond to emergencies, and write reports documenting incidents and violations. Your role also includes conducting periodic inspections to ensure the facility is safe and secure.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor inmates in correctional facilities
- Maintain security and order within the facility
- Enforce rules, regulations, and discipline
- Conduct regular inmate counts and inspections
- Escort inmates to and from various locations within the facility
- Search inmates, cells, and common areas for contraband
- Respond to emergencies and incidents, including fights and medical emergencies
- Write reports on incidents, violations, and inmate behavior
- Collaborate with other staff members, including administrators, counselors, and medical personnel
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a corrections officer training program
- Valid driver's license
- Physical fitness and stamina
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations
- Attention to detail and observation skills
