Technical Specialist (L2) – Storage and Backup is an individual contributing role and will be responsible to provide level 2 operations support to our clients’ Network ,Storage and Backup environments. Additional responsibilities include training and mentoring junior members in the operations team.
Main Duties:
- Administer, maintain, troubleshoot and support large complex multi-platform Storage environment that includes large fibre channel SAN with multiple directors, servers, storage frames technologies, as well as enterprise backup technologies.
- Perform root cause analysis for major issues and also provide workarounds to ensure business continuity.
- Identify, analyse and resolve problems specifically on storage, backup and in general, cross platform environments.
- Change Management: Prepare Implementation plan, rollback plan and test plan, risk and impact analysis for critical or complex changes. Review the change plan and documentation prepared by level 2 engineers or peers.
- Participate in CAB meetings as needed and assist change manager in techno-operations decision process.
- Assist in the creation of processes and procedures required for service delivery.
- Perform routine, planned and emergency maintenance (change planning and implementation) of storage data canter equipment.
- Identify single-point-of-failure and plan to mitigate the same.
- Fulfil critical / complex service requests.
- Availability and capacity planning and management: keep a track of uptime and capacity utilization of storage systems and publish reports to management.
- Execute additional tasks given to meet internal IT projects milestones and willingness to put additional hours when ever required.
- Ensure all services are delivered as per agreed SLAs/OLAs, quality and scope.
- Update and close tickets, update documents (such as handover documents, root cause analysis, analysis and recommendations to reports, post incident reviews) in a timely manner with high quality.
- Communicate with and log calls with vendors or 3rd parties where necessary in order to resolve issues related to storage technologies.
- Train, oversee tasks executed by junior members and stand in for them if needed.
- Suggest, influence and implement improvements in the environment (such as issue optimization, automation, streamlining process, etc.), thereby contribute to improvement of overall operations delivery and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- 5 – 10years’ work experience relevant to enterprise level storage and backup platforms in particular EMC Storage, NetApp Storage, Networker, NetBackup, Data Protector, Data Domain and Comm Vault.
- Should be a subject matter expert in:
- Mandatorily either EMC or NetApp Storage.
- Additionally at least in two of:
- HP storage.
- Symantec NetBackup.
- EMC Networker.
- EMC Data Domain.
- HP Data Protector.
- Comm Vault.
- Experience on EMC (VNX, VMAX, Celerra, XtremIO) and NetApp series storage arrays.
- Broad and in-depth knowledge of SAN technologies design, planning, implementation, and maintenance.
- Experience on troubleshoot and maintain SAN infrastructure performance, hardware, and connectivity.
- Very good experience on Cisco and Brocade series FC switches.
- Very good experience on SAN storage provisioning, LUN masking and zoning.
- Experience on Storage capacity planning, performance analysis, monitoring, reporting.
- Very good understanding NFS, CIFS, and Fiber Channel protocols.
- Very good experience in supporting and managing the replication.
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting medium to large scale, multi-site, enterprise storage environments.
- Knowledge on multiple operating systems like windows, Linux and UNIX.
- Basic experience on Cisco Nexus Series Switches is an added advantage.
- Hands on experience of working on monitoring tools / management platforms.
- Relevant certifications a must (either of EMC and NetApp, AND preferred at least one of HP storage, EMC Networker, Symantec NetBackup, Comm Vault).
- Good understanding of operational framework like ITIL/ITSM, operations process.
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
- Willingness to work in shifts and provide on call support in a 24x7 environment.
- Installation configuration of Operating system with various methods like WDS, GHOST, Bootable PD etc
- Engineer ensure proper logging of all issues
- Document technical issues in the knowledge database
- Should possess ability to learn work on changing emerging technologies Certification in new technologies like Azure, AWS will be added advantage
- Keep track of users system issues until resolved by adhering to the SLA
