Job Overview
The Senior Trader – Sugar at Reliance Retail is a full-time, senior-level position based in Navi Mumbai, requiring 10 to 15 years of relevant experience. The role focuses on leading sugar trading activities, developing market strategies, and strengthening vendor relationships while ensuring robust end-to-end process management within the dynamic retail space.
Qualifications and Skills
- Sugar Trading (Mandatory skill) – Demonstrated expertise in sugar trading operations, including sourcing, negotiation, and execution of trades both domestically and internationally.
- Extensive knowledge of the sugar commodity market, including demand and supply dynamics, price trends, and regulatory landscape influencing procurement strategy.
- Proven end to end ownership skills for handling trading cycles from opportunity identification and contract negotiation to execution and final settlement.
- Strong vendor negotiation abilities to ensure optimal terms, maintain supplier relationships, and secure favorable deals for Reliance Retail’s sugar requirements.
- Proficiency in conducting thorough market analysis, identifying price trends, key drivers, risks, and competitive landscape to formulate sound trading strategies.
- Well-versed in commodities trading principles and compliance, with experience in managing risk and ensuring adherence to statutory guidelines.
- Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams, including supply chain, operations, and finance, for seamless execution of trading requirements.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills to drive performance in a dynamic and fast-paced retail environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead and execute sugar trading operations, ensuring timely purchase, sale, and delivery to meet business objectives and volume targets.
- Develop and implement effective trading strategies aligned with organizational goals to optimize profitability and market positioning.
- Identify and evaluate new sourcing opportunities by monitoring market movements, competitor activities, and emerging trends in the sugar industry.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with vendors, maintaining relationships with domestic and international suppliers for consistent supply and cost advantage.
- Conduct detailed market analysis including demand forecasts, price movements, and geopolitical impacts to inform trading decisions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including logistics, legal, finance, and quality control teams for coordinated and compliant trading operations.
- Mitigate trading risks through continuous assessment of market, currency fluctuations, and regulatory changes affecting the sugar commodity market.
- Prepare and present regular reports on trading performance, market trends, and risk assessments to senior management for strategic decision making.
- Ensure adherence to internal control procedures, ethical trading practices, and compliance with statutory and legal frameworks relevant to commodity trading.
