Job Description: Emergency Response Technician (ERT) – NREMT Certified
Department: Emergency Medicine / Pre-Hospital Care
Location: Multispecialty Hospital, India
Reporting To: EMS Supervisor / Emergency Department Manager / Consultant – Emergency Medicine
Location: Charni Road, Girgaon, Mumbai (6 - day work week)
1. Role Summary
Responsible for delivering pre-hospital emergency care, responding to critical incidents, stabilizing patients, and ensuring safe transport to the Emergency Department. Based on global EMT/ERT standards, the role includes lifesaving interventions, emergency scene management, equipment operation, and collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other emergency personnel. Ensure rapid triage and advanced coordination across emergency, trauma, and disaster management functions.
2. Role & Responsibilities
A. Emergency Scene Response
- Respond immediately to various emergencies including medical, trauma, accidents, fire, hazardous exposures, mass casualty events, and disaster situations.
- Provide on-site patient assessment, triage, and stabilization using NREMT-compliant practices
- Administer First Aid, CPR, wound management, bleeding control, airway management, splinting, oxygen therapy, and BLS interventions.
- Rescue and extricate trapped individuals when required.
B. Pre‑Hospital Clinical Care
- Assess patient condition, determine priority for treatment, and initiate clinical interventions.
- Operate emergency medical equipment including EKGs, defibrillators, bag-valve masks, airway devices, and monitoring systems.
- Provide advanced support as trained (IV initiation, airway support, immobilization, etc.) under supervision.
- Communicate with ED physicians and paramedics for smooth clinical handover.
C. Patient Transport & Communication
- Safely transport patients to the Emergency Department or trauma center.
- Maintain continuous monitoring, vital recording, and documentation of care provided during transport.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, police, fire services, and hospital staff.
D. Emergency Department Support
- Assist doctors and nurses with resuscitation, airway procedures, vitals monitoring, specimen handling, and patient positioning.
- Perform basic clinical procedures including EKGs, IV discontinuation, splint application, wound care, Foley insertion support (trained), nasogastric tube support, etc.
- Perform clerical tasks such as EHR documentation, order entry, and basic coordination duties.
E. Regulatory, Training & Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain active NREMT certification, adhering to recertification and training requirements.
- Participate in drills, physical fitness sessions, and emergency preparedness training.
- Provide community outreach assistance during safety awareness programs.
- Comply with hospital SOPs, EMS regulations, and quality/safety policies.
3. Qualifications
Mandatory
- Graduate and NREMT Certification
- 1–3 years experience in EMS or hospital emergency departments.
- Strong knowledge of BLS, trauma care, and emergency protocols.
- Basic proficiency with clinical equipment used in ED/Pre-hospital care.
Preferred
- ACLS / PALS / ITLS certifications
- Experience working in trauma centers, multispecialty hospitals, or EMS agencies
- Familiarity with Indian EMS triage protocols (CTAS/START)
- Driving license (if ambulance operations are required)
