• Preventive Care: Perform dental cleanings (prophylaxis), scaling, root planing, and polish teeth to remove plaque and calculus.
• Assessments & Diagnostics: Conduct oral screenings, examine gums for disease, check for oral cancer, take and interpret dental X-rays, and review patient health history.
• Patient Education: Teach patients proper brushing, flossing, and nutrition techniques to maintain oral health.
• Clinical Support: Apply preventative materials like fluoride and sealants, apply desensitizing agents, and assist with or administer local anesthesia (if state-certified).
• Documentation: Maintain accurate patient treatment records, chart findings, and document in Electronic Health Records (EHR).
• Sterilization: Sterilize dental instruments and maintain a safe, clean, and organized operatory according to infection control protocols.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Education: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from an accredited program.
• License: Must be a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) with an active state license.
• Certifications: Current CPR certification (often Basic Life Support).
• Skills: Strong interpersonal skills for patient care, manual dexterity for using small instruments, attention to detail, and proficiency in dental software.
