This role is with Reliance's Battery Business, for Lithium Ion Cell manufacturing Plant's Automation team. We are looking for individuals passionate about renewables to be part of this initiative.


Job Responsibilities


1. Manage End-to-End Automation Implementation


  • Drive automation initiatives for manufacturing processes, integrating robotics, motion controls, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and ramp-up of automation equipment in production lines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and quality, to ensure seamless automation deployment.
  • Ensure automation projects meet cost, quality, and timeline objectives.


2. Develop and Implement Automation Strategy


  • Monitor global trends in industrial automation, including advancements in PLC programming, control systems, and IoT-enabled manufacturing.
  • Create a strategic roadmap for automation adoption, ensuring alignment with business and operational goals.
  • Define automation investment priorities based on cost-benefit analysis and long-term manufacturing efficiency.
  • Develop automation workflows and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for implementation teams.


3. Guide and Mentor Automation Teams


  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians specializing in automation, PLC programming, and control systems.
  • Provide technical guidance in CAD design tools such as SolidWorks or Catia for automation-related designs.
  • Ensure the team is trained on the latest automation technologies, safety standards, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Foster a problem-solving and innovation-driven culture within the team.


4. Support Annual Automation Planning & Budgeting


  • Forecast costs for automation projects, including robotics, conveyors, and electromechanical systems.
  • Align automation investments with production goals and organizational strategy.
  • Conduct budget vs. actual analysis for automation expenditures and recommend cost optimization measures.
  • Identify funding opportunities and cost-sharing models for automation initiatives.


5. Lead Sourcing and Vendor Management for Automation


  • Identify and collaborate with automation technology providers, robotics vendors, and control system suppliers.
  • Drive techno-commercial negotiations for automation equipment, ensuring cost efficiency and performance reliability.
  • Establish long-term partnerships with vendors for continuous automation innovation.
  • Engage with global and local suppliers to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.


6. Monitor Automation Performance and Optimization


  • Utilize real-time dashboards to track automation performance, downtime, and efficiency improvements.
  • Implement predictive maintenance strategies using sensor data and analytics.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of automation systems to enhance productivity and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Ensure alignment with operational targets, including OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and cycle time improvements.


7. Develop and Maintain Technical Documentation


  • Maintain detailed documentation for all automation equipment, including electrical schematics, pneumatic layouts, and PLC logic.
  • Ensure that tooling drawings and control system schematics are up to date.
  • Develop user manuals, troubleshooting guides, and training materials for production and maintenance teams.
  • Regularly update risk assessments and compliance records for automation systems.


8. Ensure Compliance and Safety in Automation Systems


  • Design and implement control-reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and safety codes, including OSHA and ISO standards.
  • Conduct safety audits and implement corrective actions to enhance workplace safety in automation operations.
  • Develop safety training programs for operators and maintenance personnel.


9. Leverage Technology for Smart Manufacturing


  • Implement Industry 4.0 solutions such as IoT-enabled automation, digital twins, and AI-driven predictive maintenance.
  • Optimize PLC programming and SCADA systems for real-time monitoring and control.
  • Utilize simulation tools to test automation processes before deployment.
  • Drive initiatives to integrate automation with ERP and MES systems for seamless data flow and decision-making.


10. Facilitate Team Development and Capability Building


  • Build a high-performing automation team with expertise in control systems, robotics, and mechatronics.
  • Foster continuous learning and skill development through training, certifications, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide growth opportunities for team members.
  • Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in automation projects.


Education: Degree in Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent


Experience – 3 to 6 years

  • Expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing automation systems, including robotics, PLC programming, and motion controls, within manufacturing environments.
  • Strong experience in integrating automation solutions with existing manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve product quality.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams to develop and deploy control systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD design tools such as SolidWorks or Catia, along with proficiency in tooling drawings, pneumatic, and electrical schematics.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing automation projects, overseeing vendor relationships, and driving continuous improvement initiatives in high-volume production environments.
