Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Metrology & Automation Engineer to support the implementation, commissioning, and optimization of metrology systems in a high-tech manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will work closely with process engineers, automation specialists, and vendors to ensure accurate measurement, data integrity, and seamless integration of metrology equipment into the production line. This role involves defining automation requirements, overseeing equipment acceptance criteria, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define automation and metrology requirements with process engineers.
- Ensure proper installation, commissioning, and calibration of metrology gauges.
- Validate automation sequences and safety logic before handover.
- Develop work instructions, SOPs, and troubleshooting matrix.
- Monitor metrology system performance and optimize feedback loops.
- Maintain detailed records of automation software versions and updates.
- Debug PLC and HMI programs
- Investigate root causes and recommend corrective actions
- Real time monitoring of the metrology gauges and support the production requirements.
- Implement SPC (Statistical Process Control) using metrology data to detect process variations.
- Deploy software patches and firmware updates for metrology equipment.
- Conduct calibration procedures, maintain recipes for metrology
- Implement fine tune feedback control loops
- Update the process team on the process tuning
- Maintain detailed records of automation software versions and changes
- Update SOPs and manufacturing instructions.
- Test new sensor technologies or alternative measurement methods for potential upgrades or retrofitting.
- Conduct benchmarking against industry best practices to improve metrology efficiency.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or related fields
Experience: 3 to 8 years
- Experience in metrology, automation, or industrial manufacturing.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial automation.
- Experience with metrology equipment calibration, SPC, and Gauge R&R studies.
- Strong understanding of data logging, traceability, and network communication protocols.
- Working experience with new sensor technologies, including industrial cameras, CCD, machine vision, laser, and other measurement/metrology devices.
- Knowledge of safety compliance and industry standards.
- Hands-on experience with troubleshooting metrology and automation systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional team and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
- Working experience with software like Minitab, tableau, SQL, AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
