Job Overview:
We are building a world-class Lithium-Ion Battery business organization, poised to shape the future of clean energy. As we rapidly scale, we seek an accomplished Team Lead – Global Mobility (Battery Business) to spearhead and oversee the legal, operational, and strategic aspects of international mobility for employees, vendor & project partner personnel, ensuring full compliance with global immigration and tax regulations.
In this role, you will serve as a key advisor on work authorization, visa processing, expatriate taxation, regulatory risks, and labor laws associated with international assignments. You will play a critical role in managing mobility operations across China, South Asia, US, Europe and other global markets, supporting the seamless movement of talent and external partners to drive business success.
Key Responsibilities:
Global Mobility & Immigration Management:
- Manage international visa processing, work permits, and compliance audits to ensure adherence to global labor and immigration regulations.
- Act as a subject matter expert for mobility policies, providing guidance to employees, HR teams, and senior management.
- Monitor regulatory changes affecting employee mobility and proactively implement policy updates.
- Work closely with external immigration personnel’s and government agencies to handle complex immigration cases.
- Conduct immigration briefing sessions and compliance training for relocating employees and HR stakeholders.
- Handle business escalations and exceptions related to global mobility and work authorization challenges.
Assignment & Relocation Management:
- Develop and manage policies for Long-Term Assignments (LTA), Short-Term Assignments (STA), and Local Plus arrangements.
- Create assignment offers, cost calculations, and relocation packages tailored to business needs and global tax implications.
- Conduct detailed walkthroughs for international assignees and hiring managers to ensure transparency.
- Ensure smooth transitions by managing housing, schooling, transportation, and cultural assimilation programs for employees and their families.
- Oversee employee repatriation, cross-posting, transfers, and localization strategies.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure full compliance with Right to Work (RTW) checks, immigration laws, tax regulations, and labor policies.
- Lead audits and compliance reporting to mitigate risks associated with international mobility.
- Work closely with tax consultants to ensure expatriate tax compliance, payroll processing, and social security arrangements.
- Manage salary reviews for LTAs, including annual bonus calculations and assignment recalibrations.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management:
- Manage and engage international vendors, technology partners, consultants, and external mobility providers for travel, accommodation, and assignment logistics.
- Act as a strategic advisor to business leaders and HR partners on international mobility best practices.
- Partner with external vendors for immigration, tax, relocation, and medical insurance services.
- Monitor vendor performance, costs, and SLAs, ensuring optimal service delivery.
Process Improvement & Digital Transformation:
- Lead automation initiatives for immigration systems, visa tracking, and assignment management.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance mobility operations, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
- Implement data-driven decision-making using analytics tools and HR platforms like SAP, Workday, or mobility-specific software.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Internal Business, Business Administration, International Relations, Law, Human Resources or a related field.
- Global Mobility Specialist (GMS) or GMS-T certification is highly desirable.
Experience & Expertise:
- 8-12 years of experience in global mobility, immigration and relocation in a multinational or energy sector organization.
- Strong knowledge of visa processing, expatriate taxation, labor laws, and immigration regulations in China, South Asia (mandatory), US, UK, Europe (desirable), and other international markets.
- Hands-on experience with ERP/HRIS systems (SAP, Workday, Oracle) and global mobility management tools.
- Strong stakeholder management, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities to handle business escalations effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, global environment, managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
