We are building a world-class Lithium-Ion Battery business organization, poised to shape the future of clean energy. As we rapidly scale up, we seek an accomplished Procurement Leader who will spearhead the sourcing, negotiation, and acquisition of critical equipment packages for our production lines and utilities across battery materials plants. In this pivotal role, you will develop and execute procurement strategies, cultivate key vendor partnerships, and ensure on-time delivery of high-quality, cost-effective solutions—all while driving innovation and operational excellence in a rapidly evolving market
Job Responsibilities
1. Manage End-to-End CAPEX Procurement
- Participate in procurement activities for high-value capital goods, including production equipment packages, utility packages and Coordinate for procurement of Electrical and instrumentation items with category team within targeted cost, quality, and time parameters.
- Collaborate with the Procurement Lead to align CAPEX strategies with broader category management objectives.
2. Develop and Implement CAPEX Procurement Strategy
- Monitor global market trends, particularly in high-value capital equipment and mechanical systems.
- Create a comprehensive supply market profile for CAPEX materials and equipment.
- Provide strategic inputs for CAPEX procurement planning and capital allocation.
- Develop Procure to pay plan activities for the team.
3. Guide Procurement Team
- Mentor Buyers/Senior Buyers in CAPEX-specific procurement activities, including supplier assessment, contract negotiation, and project implementation.
4. Support Annual Procurement Planning & Budgeting
- Provide cost forecasts for CAPEX projects, including machinery, production lines, and utility systems.
- Align the annual CAPEX budget with organizational goals and project timelines.
- Conduct budget vs. actual analysis for CAPEX expenditures and recommend corrective actions if required.
5. Lead Sourcing Events and Vendor Management
- Execute sourcing events for CAPEX projects, including vendor identification, techno-commercial negotiations, and vendor selection for mechanical equipment and package procurement.
- Ensure timely delivery and installation of capital equipment to meet project deadlines.
- Engage with Chinese vendors for procurement, ensuring adherence to quality and compliance standards.
6. Monitor Procurement Performance
- Utilize procurement dashboards to track CAPEX project milestones, spending, and vendor performance, ensuring alignment with operational targets.
7. Develop and Maintain Vendor Relationships
- Implement cost reduction and quality enhancement programs for CAPEX vendors.
- Monitor vendor performance against Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and resolve issues proactively.
- Establish robust vendor development processes, particularly with international and high-value equipment suppliers.
- Maintain ethical procurement practices, ensuring transparency and fairness in dealings with domestic and international vendors.
8. Leverage Technology for CAPEX Efficiency
- Optimize use of SAP for procure-to-pay processes, enhancing visibility and control over CAPEX expenditures.
- Utilize e-auction and reverse auction tools for package procurement, driving cost efficiency and competitive pricing.
9. Coordinate Across Departments for CAPEX Execution
- Ensure real-time visibility of CAPEX material availability to project teams and operational units.
- Liaise with Vendor logistics team and Category team for smooth movement of materials from domestic/overseas vendors.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Finance, Taxation (EXIM, Customs), and Trade Finance teams for seamless project execution, including letter of credit (LC) preparation and BoE compliance.
- Assess supply chain risks related to CAPEX projects, develop mitigation strategies, and maintain risk register entries.
10. Facilitate Team Development
- Build a high-performing CAPEX procurement team, specializing in mechanical equipment and production utilities.
- Enhance commercial acumen within the team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Regularly evaluate team performance, provide feedback, and support career development initiatives.
Education: B.E/B.Tech and MBA (preferred)
Experience: 10+ years of experience in Procurement.
- Demonstrated ability in sourcing and managing high-value capital equipment for projects, ideally within chemicals, battery, or process industries (Batch manufacturing)
- Extensive experience negotiating with Foreign vendors (preferably Chinese) including a solid understanding of international procurement practices, import regulations, and quality assurance standards
- Proven background in procuring mechanical packages, electrical equipment and utility packages essential for plant operations.
- Strong skills in managing complex contracts, overseeing project timelines, and ensuring timely delivery.
- Effective leadership capabilities with experience in cross-functional team management and risk mitigation
