Job Summary: The Head of Boarding is responsible for providing leadership, management, and support to the boarding community, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for students residing on campus. This role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of the boarding facility, promoting the social and emotional development of students, and working closely with staff, students, and parents/guardians to create a positive and supportive boarding experience.
Key Responsibilities:
1). Boarding Facility Management:
- Supervise and manage the physical, safety, and security aspects of the boarding facility, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Oversee room assignments, maintenance, and cleanliness.
2). Student Well-being:
- Promote the overall well-being of boarding students, addressing their physical, emotional, and social needs.
- Provide support and guidance to students on personal and academic matters.
3). Staff Supervision:
- Recruit, train, and manage boarding staff, including resident advisors, counsellors, and support personnel.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and professional development sessions.
4). Student Activities and Programming:
- Develop and organize extracurricular activities, outings, and events to enhance the boarding experience.
- Encourage student involvement in sports, arts, and community service.
5). Behavior and Discipline:
- Establish and enforce rules and behavioral expectations within the boarding community.
- Address disciplinary issues in a fair and consistent manner.
6). Communication and Collaboration:
- Foster open and effective communication with students, parents/guardians, and other school departments.
- Collaborate with academic staff to ensure academic support and monitor student progress.
7). Emergency Response:
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for the boarding facility.
- Ensure the safety of students during emergencies or crises.
8). Budget and Resources:
- Manage the boarding budget and allocate resources efficiently.
- Oversee the procurement of supplies and services for the boarding facility.
9). Crisis Support:
- Provide emotional and practical support to students during challenging times, such as homesickness or personal difficulties.
- Connect students with counselling or medical services when needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, counselling, social work, or a related field (a master's degree may be preferred).
- Relevant experience in residential life, boarding management, or a similar leadership role.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, as well as safety and security procedures.
- Leadership and team management experience.
