Job Purpose

The CNC Manager – Shop Floor will be responsible for overseeing daily CNC machining activities on the shop floor, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and safety compliance are achieved. The role demands strong technical knowledge of CNC programming and operations, team leadership, and the ability to optimize shop-floor efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Shop Floor Operations

• Supervise day-to-day CNC machining operations (milling, turning, grinding, etc.).
• Allocate jobs and monitor workflow to meet daily production schedules.
• Verify machine setup, tool selection, and program execution.
• Troubleshoot machining problems and guide operators in resolving issues.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure parts are produced within defined tolerances and quality standards.
• Coordinate with QC team for in-process and final inspection.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions for defects or deviations.

Team Management

• Lead, guide, and train CNC operators, setters, and junior engineers.
• Ensure discipline, attendance, and productivity of the shop-floor team.
• Conduct skill development sessions to enhance operator capability.

Machine & Tool Maintenance

• Monitor machine health and ensure timely preventive maintenance.
• Coordinate with maintenance team for breakdown resolution.
• Manage tooling inventory and ensure availability of cutting tools and fixtures.

Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain shop-floor records of production, downtime, rework, and scrap.
• Submit daily/weekly production reports to management.
• Support ISO/quality audits with required documentation.

Safety & Efficiency

• Enforce safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized shop floor.
• Optimize cycle times, reduce machine downtime, and improve efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with EHS (Environment, Health, Safety) guidelines.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of CNC machines (Fanuc, Siemens, Haas, or equivalent).
• Proficiency in CNC programming and G-code understanding.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, NX, SolidCAM preferred).
• Good understanding of machining processes, materials, and tooling.
• Leadership and team management skills.
• Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Basic knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and ERP systems.
