Internship Opportunities

IBM Research India invites applications for its Summer Internship Program 2026 across three exciting focus areas:

Role 1

1️⃣ Research Intern – Artificial Intelligence (Agents & Automation)

• Focus on AI for Enterprise Applications, Generative AI, Agentic AI, and Foundation Models
• Research areas include: AI for IT Automation, Agent Middleware, AI Security, Multimodal Models, and AI for Reasoning
• Key Tools/Skills: Python, TensorFlow / PyTorch, LangChain, crew.ai, Watsonx.ai, Pandas, NumPy

Role 2

2️⃣ Research Intern – Platform for AI

• Focus on Large Language Model (LLM) training, finetuning, and optimization for enterprise-scale deployment
• Work on distributed AI infrastructure, GPU tuning, and AI model performance engineering
• Key Tools/Skills: Python / Java, PyTorch (FSDP, SFT, LoRA, RL), Docker, Kubernetes, GPU Architecture, Triton, Hugging Face

Role 3

3️⃣ Research Intern – Quantum Cloud Software

• Focus on Quantum Computing, AI for Quantum, and Quantum Infrastructure Reliability
• Subareas include Qiskit development, Quantum Algorithms (QAOA), AI-Quantum Integration, and Cloud Services
• Key Tools/Skills: Python, Qiskit, Rust, Linux, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Node.js / TypeScript, Quantum Theory Fundamentals

🧩 Common Mandatory Skills (for All Streams)

• Strong coding in Python (Pandas, NumPy)
• Solid grasp of Data Structures & Algorithms
• Foundation in Linear Algebra, Probability, and Statistics
• Proficiency with VS Code / Jupyter Notebooks
• Version Control: Git
• Basic knowledge of Cloud Platforms and Containerization (Docker / Kubernetes / OpenShift)

🧠 Who Can Apply

• Students passionate about research in AI, ML, Cloud Systems, or Quantum Computing
• Candidates with a strong academic background and hands-on coding proficiency
• Applicants may apply to up to 3 IBM roles per year (including these).
