The Context / Purpose of the Job

Refractories Operations for Steel Melting Shop

Roles and responsibilities:

Manage shift-related activities for EAF relining, steel ladle relining, and tundish management at the caster.

Oversee hot repairs, hot gunning, fettling, and patch repairs of vessels based on visual and IR camera feedback.

Monitor refractory application parameters during the installation of purging plugs, slide gates, and flow control components.

Execute preheating schedules for steel ladles and tundishes according to established SOPs.

Conduct condition monitoring and health assessments of ladles and EAF linings using laser scanners and thermography.

Plan and deploy resources for timely completion of refractory activities during major vessel relining and plant shutdowns.

Track and maintain data for KPI movements, material performance, and equipment life cycles.

Monitor shift-wise material stock and coordinate with stores for deliveries using SAP/Easybuy.

Issue work permits and certify job memos for all refractory work performed during the shift.

Ensure workplace safety, minimize man-machine interface risks, and oversee the safety of all contractor employees.

Audit the health of contractor machinery and maintain accountability for all departmental assets.

Manage the spare status and maintenance of slide gate mechanisms, tundish furniture, and purging systems.

Coordinate with various departments and agencies to ensure smooth operations and crisis management.

Ensure training of contract employees, recordkeeping, and compliance with daily management initiatives.

Maintain housekeeping standards in the casting area and manage waste disposal from the workplace to designated bins.
