Education: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
Add. Qualifications:
- Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD).
- Relevant certifications in power quality, renewable energy integration, or energy management (e.g., CEM - Certified Energy Manager)
Overall Experience: 10 -12 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering roles, with a strong emphasis on power systems design, analysis, and critical infrastructure
Role Purpose:
The Core Engineering - Electricals’ primary purpose is to drive the strategic direction and technological advancement of electrical infrastructure within our data center portfolio. This role focuses on leading the development of innovative electrical designs, establishing global engineering standards, evaluating emerging technologies, and providing expert electrical guidance to optimise performance, enhance scalability, and achieve sustainable outcomes for future data centre deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
•Advanced Electrical System Design & Innovation:
- Lead the research, conceptualization, and design of next-generation electrical power systems for data centers, including utility interfaces, high-voltage distribution, medium/low voltage switchgear, advanced UPS topologies (e.g., modular, battery-based, flywheel), generators, energy storage solutions (e.g., battery energy storage systems - BESS), and renewable energy integration.
- Develop innovative electrical architectures that push the boundaries of efficiency, power density, scalability, and resilience beyond current industry norms.
- Conduct feasibility studies, technical evaluations, and cost-benefit analyses for new electrical technologies and design concepts.
• Global Electrical Engineering Standards & Best Practices:
- Define, develop, and maintain global electrical engineering standards, specifications, and best practices for data center design and construction, ensuring consistency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness across all regions.
- Evaluate and incorporate relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NFPA, IEC, Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, local codes) into design guidelines.
- Drive standardization of electrical components, equipment, and processes to optimize supply
- chain, reduce lead times, and improve operational maintainability.
•Technology Scouting & Evaluation:
- Actively research and scout emerging electrical technologies, disruptive innovations, and cutting-edge solutions in power electronics, renewable energy, smart grid integration, and energy storage relevant to data centers.
- Conduct rigorous technical due diligence, testing, and proof-of-concept initiatives for promising new technologies.
- Develop technology roadmaps for future electrical infrastructure upgrades and deployments.
•Cross-Functional Collaboration & Subject Matter Expertise:
- Serve as the top-tier electrical subject matter expert (SME) for the organization, providing advanced technical guidance and mentorship to regional engineering teams, operations, and project managers.
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical, BMS/Automation, IT Infrastructure, and other Core Engineering Leads to develop integrated, holistic data center designs.
- Partner with R&D teams, vendors, and academic institutions to drive joint innovation efforts.
•Performance Optimization & Future Proofing:
- Develop methodologies and tools for analyzing electrical system performance, efficiency (PUE, energy losses), reliability, and power quality.
- Define strategies for future-proofing electrical infrastructure against evolving power demands, regulatory changes, and sustainability goals.
- Lead initiatives for advanced power monitoring, controls, and predictive analytics for electrical systems.
•Documentation & Intellectual Property:
- Generate comprehensive engineering reports, white papers, technical specifications, and design guidelines
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property (patents, trade secrets) related to data center electrical systems.

- Next-Generation Electrical Designs: Conceptual and detailed designs for innovative, highly efficient, and resilient electrical infrastructure.
- Global Electrical Engineering Standards: Comprehensive, up-to-date, and globally adopted electrical design and construction standards.
- Technology Evaluation Reports: Rigorous technical and financial evaluations of emerging electrical technologies with clear recommendations.
- Innovation Roadmaps: Detailed roadmaps for future electrical infrastructure development and adoption.
- Technical White Papers & Research: Published internal or external papers on advanced electrical topics relevant to data centers.
- Successful Pilot Programs: Completed proof-of-concept and pilot deployments of new electrical technologies.
- Expert Guidance & Support: Provision of timely and accurate electrical engineering expertise to regional and operational teams.
